Oceania accounts for approximately 40% of the world's raw wool production. Australia primarily produces fine wool, while New Zealand mainly produces semi-fine wool, with each individual producing an average of over 5.0 kg of wool annually. South America also boasts high wool production levels. Australia, New Zealand, the former Soviet Union, and China are the major wool producers, accounting for about 60% of the world's total wool production. Besides Australia and New Zealand, major wool exporting countries include Argentina, Uruguay, and South Africa.
Domestically, the main wool-producing region is Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The wool produced in the northeastern part of the region, due to its favorable climate, has the best softness and is suitable for the textile industry.
